500 gr / 17.5 oz grated meat

3 slices of bread

1 cup of milk (180 – 200 ml)

2 onions

1 tbsp thyme

1 tbsp paprika

½ tbsp mace

Pepper

Salt

For the Sauce

4 tomatoes

2 bell peppers

1 tbsp paprika

Salt

2 tbsp olive oil

½ tbsp oregano

For the Giaourtlou mix

Kebabs

Sauce

Yoghurt

Fried potatoes

Salt

Pepper

Instructions

For the Kebabs

In a bowl, add the milk and the slices of bread so that they will absorb the milk. In another bowl, add the grated meat. (You can use whatever meat you want but it is best to have two kinds and mix them together)

In this bowl, add all the ingredients for the kebab and mix them together for at least 5 minutes, until they form a uniform mass that does not stick to the bowl.

Then, form the kebabs one by one and put them on a plate. Once, you are done put a cling film on the plate and put it in the refrigerator for an hour.

When they are ready put them on a pan with baking paper on and bake them in the middle of the oven for 30 – 35 minutes at 200 °C / 390 °F.

You can also grill them.

For the Sauce

Cut and grate the tomatoes and peppers and put them in a pot. Add paprika, salt and olive oil.

Cook it for about half an hour at a low temperature (without any water) until you see that only the oil is left (there shouldn’t be any juice from the tomatoes).

Then, add oregano and let it cool.

*If you want to make a bigger portion, it will take longer to boil.

For the Giaourtlou mix

Fry the potatoes and put them on a plate with a paper towel on so that it will absorb the extra oil.

Then, take them to the main plate and add three kebab pieces on top.

Then, add the yoghurt and on top of that the sauce.

The potatoes, kebabs and sauce should be warm while the yoghurt should be at room temperature.

Enjoy!
